Take a passenger on your pre-planned trips along I-15
1. Driver Eligibility
- Background Check: All drivers must pass a background check, including driving and criminal records. Individuals with the following may not qualify:
- Felony convictions
- Violent crimes
- DUIs
- Frequent or severe traffic violations
If you have questions about eligibility, contact us at 435-301-3088 or info@city2city.app before applying.
- Age Requirement: Drivers must be at least 21 years old.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license from Utah, Nevada, or Idaho is required.
- Professionalism: Drivers must exhibit reliability, courtesy, and a commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for passengers.
2. Vehicle Requirements
- Vehicle Type: Only 4-door passenger vehicles are eligible. Trucks, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles are not allowed.
- Condition: Vehicles must be clean, well-maintained, and free from major cosmetic or mechanical issues.
- Age Limit: Cars must generally be 12 years old or newer. If your vehicle is older but in exceptional condition, contact us for a case-by-case review.
- Seating and Space:
- Vehicles must have at least 3 passenger seats with functional safety belts.
- Riders should have full access to the back seat and at least half the cargo space. Ensure space for a carry-on bag plus a full-size suitcase per passenger.
- Drivers may allow a second rider (e.g., friends traveling together) but must clearly list capacity in ride details.
- Insurance: Comprehensive auto insurance is required, meeting or exceeding state requirements:
- $100,000 per person for bodily injury
- $300,000 per accident for bodily injury
- $50,000 for property damage
Note: As City2City offsets costs for trips you’d already be taking, your personal insurance covers incidents.
- Documentation: Drivers must provide:
- Proof of valid auto insurance
- Vehicle registration
- Driver’s license
All documents must match the name on your City2City profile. Contact us if discrepancies exist.
3. How It Works
- Listing Rides:
- Plan your commutes and post them up to a year in advance.
- Include departure times, pick-up/drop-off locations, and available seats. (the back seat should be reserved for the passenger)
- Pro Tip: The earlier you post your ride, the more likely it will fill.
- Ride Cancellation:
- There is no penalty for canceling a ride before accepting a passenger.
- If you must cancel after accepting a passenger, notify the passenger via app message and City2City immediately to allow the rider time to make alternative plans.
- Passenger Selection:
- Review passenger profiles and feedback before accepting requests.
- Passengers must verify their identity, but additional guests may not be on record. Message passengers via the app to confirm occupants, pick-up, and drop-off details.
- Pick-Up and Drop-Off:
- Door-to-door service is under development and at least a year away.
- Drivers should choose safe, well-lit, public locations for pick-up/drop-off, such as:
- Cafés or coffee shops with long operating hours
- Train or bus stations with regular foot traffic
- Airports or rideshare-specific zones
- Gas stations with well-lit parking areas
- Fast-food restaurants like McDonald’s or similar businesses open late
- Avoid desolate areas, and your home address as it’s likely not very close to you passenger.
- Rider Requests: Riders may occasionally request small deviations from the planned route, such as extra stops or slight variations in drop-off locations. Please accommodate these adjustments when possible. We are actively enhancing communication and customization features within the app and appreciate your patience.
- Flexibility: You control when and where you drive. Post only the trips that work for your schedule.
4. Payments and Earnings
- Payment Process: Payments are automatically processed through the app after each trip.
- Earnings Potential: Regular drivers can offset thousands of dollars annually in travel costs. Typically fees are the cost of gas + $10.
- Independent Contractor Status: Drivers operate as independent contractors and are responsible for their own taxes and expenses.
- Setting Up Payments:
- A Stripe account is required to receive payments for rides given.
- Enter your publishable and private keys into the app. Watch this Stripe Setup Video for guidance.
- Important: If Stripe is not correctly set up, payments will fail, and compensation could be lost with no method for recovering it.
- Payout Adjustments: As of Spring 2025, payout structures are being optimized and may change.
- Tips: In-app tipping is not yet available but may be introduced in the future along side many other enhancements.
5. Safety First
Your safety and that of your passengers is our top priority. Follow these guidelines to ensure a secure experience:
- Verify Passengers: Only begin a ride after the passenger provides their unique 4-digit OTP (One-Time Passcode) to confirm the trip. Do not proceed if they cannot provide this code. Note that Payment must be made in order to view the code, if the rider cannot provide the code, it is possible, they have not made a payment yet. Payments must be made prior to the ride starting.
- Match Profiles: Ensure the passenger matches their profile photo and details before starting the ride. Decline the ride if anything feels off and report it to City2City. In emergencies, call 911.
- Pick-Up/Drop-Off Safety: Use safe, well-lit, and populated public locations for meeting points. Avoid desolate areas or neighborhoods.
- Emergency Preparedness: Keep a fully charged phone and a basic emergency kit in your car. Pull over safely and call 911 if needed.
- Highly Recommend: Use a dash cam that records the interior of the car with audio for added security.
- Prohibited Behavior: City2City has zero tolerance for harassment, discrimination, alcohol or drug use, or unsafe driving practices. Report non emergency incidents immediately to City2City.
6. Additional Considerations
- Support During Beta: Some features mentioned in this page may not yet be implemented in the app. As we learn and grow, some features may not work as expected. Contact us at 435-301-3088 or info@city2city.app for assistance or feedback.
